Squalor (see also TIMETRIPPER)
A comic book series written and created by Stefan Petrucha, with art by Tom Sutton, coloring by Paul Mounts, released by First Publishing - now a series of Novels from Penguin's Razorbill line called Timetripper!
After a nervous breakdown, theoretical physicist Harry Keller is barely able to hold down a job at a local library. Unknown to most, his shattered consciousness, leads him to a new perception of time, enabling him to enter the surreal world of A-Time, where past, present and future co-exist.
As Harry explores the odd terrain, Inhabited by strange creatures such as Quirks and Glitches, he stumbles onto a devious plan to have Ronald Reagan re-elected president, so he can die in office and fulfill the Zero Curse!
Stefan Petrucha's first creator-owned property, Squalor, was warmly received. On the day it appeared, he walked into Forbidden Planet, the largest comic store in Manhattan, only to find all the copies off the shelf and in the hands of people standing around reading it.
Suspended Animation, a weekly radio review of comics said: "Readers will witness a rare event in comic books, the introduction of a major new talent, Stefan Petrucha. Even more amazing is that this intense, well-written, highly original book is the first comic book Petrucha has ever written!"
First Publishing's demise left the sequel
unpublished, but in February of 2005, Petrucha signed a four
book deal with Penguin's new Razorbill imprint to revive
and revamp Harry & Co as a teen novel series, Timetripper.
All four books are now on sale!
Also, an issue of Charlton
Spotlight dedicated to the late Tom Sutton has reprints
several pages from the unpublished sequel,
SQUALOR II: The Imagining!
